What's Near, Mid and Far Infrared? - Aqua Spa Float Center

What’s Infrared?

We will start with the most common question about infrared saunas. Infrared heat is what makes these saunas different from a traditional sauna. Infrared is the invisible part of the sun’s spectrum and has the ability to comfortably penetrate skin and muscle tissue. This produces a host of benefits when used in a sauna setting!

Infrared heat is effective at a more comfortable temperature (100°-150°F vs 200°F in a traditional sauna). And, because it penetrates skin tissue, infrared heat has been found to be seven times more effective than traditional saunas at detoxifying the body.

Our Sunlighten mPulse Infrared Saunas with Solocarbon 3-in-1® contain a unique patented technology that provides near, mid and far infrared at optimal wavelengths based on clinical studies.

What’s the Difference Between Near, Mid and Far Infrared?

The various infrared wavelengths target different areas and each provide unique benefits.

Near Infrared

Near infrared (NIR) is the shortest infrared wavelength. Research shows that when delivered at a specific wavelength,  NIR promotes skin renewal, cell health, wound healing, and tissue growth. Advanced LEDs provide true near infrared at a consistent output for cell rejuvenation and anti-aging. LEDs are effective because they can trigger a natural photo-biochemical reaction, similar to how plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into plant tissue. And, when the wave is pulsed, it can travel deeper into tissues. Our partners at Sunlighten say that the mPulse model saunas got their name because the LEDs pulsate for optimal benefits.

Mid Infrared

Mid infrared (MIR) is a longer wavelength that can penetrate deeper into the body’s soft tissue where inflammation occurs. This speeds up the body’s natural healing process! Another great benefit  is that this wavelength improves circulation. To produce MIR, sauna heaters must be able to maintain a surface temperature of 210⁰C. Sunlighten’s mPulse saunas provide full spectrum and can withstand the high temperatures required for MIR.

Far Infrared

Far infrared (FIR) is the longest wavelength and reaches deep into the body, where toxins are stored. Benefits of this wavelength include weight loss, detoxification, blood pressure reduction and advanced relaxation. Sunlighten’s mPulse infrared saunas have the most effective far infrared heater with the highly emissive Solocarbon heater.

Between these three wavelengths, you will be able to target your health needs effectively.
